Our Mourvedre comes from the Onx Vineyard located approximately 2 miles south of Zenaida at a slightly lower elevation in the Templeton Gap District. This vineyard has a soil type composed of sandy loam and large cobble but with a fair amount of limestone. Wines from this vineyard are fruit driven and concentrated. The grapes are fermented in small open top fermenters and aged in select French cooperage for 15 months. Much of the wine is aged in puncheons which are 500 liter barrels, 2 ½ times larger than a standard size wine barrel. This larger barrel allows for more finesse and a more subtle oak influence. The final blend is fruit driven earthy and rustic with flavors of plum currant and cherry.
