The Zephyr blend is a culmination of the best elements of the home vineyard. The Growing
conditions on the home vineyard are particularly well suited for Zinfandel and Rhone varietals.
Warm days and cool nights help the fruit to ripen fully yet retain acid for balance and ageing.
Typically low yielding vines are farmed with sustainable agriculture procedures including non
tillage, perennial grasses in vine row middles and mulching utilizing mulch produced onsite
from previous year’s pommace. Fruit is hand harvested, de-stemmed, cold soaked and slowly
macerated in small open top fermenters for approximately 20 days. Syrah and Viognier lots
are co-fermented on the skins to enhance mouth feel and color. Cooler fermentation
temperatures accentuate the more delicate fruit and floral characteristics in the wine. Cold
soaking will also help to avoid harsh tannin leaching that is possible during longer
macerations. I have selected premium French oak barrels that enhance and compliment the
floral and fruit forward style of the Zephyr blend.
